Transform Your Backyard Patio Before Winter Comes Back

If you have left your boring concrete patio sitting in your backyard all summer without using it, you need to make some changes so you can enjoy it. Fortunately, it is not difficult to do this and you can likely do many, if not all, of these things on your own. Doing this know will let you enjoy your patio at least for a little bit before old man winter arrives. Keep reading and your patio will be transformed into something beautiful.

Add Some Color

The first thing you need to do is to turn that dull, grey floor color to something much more exciting. One easy way to do this is to stain the concrete. You can purchase concrete stain at home improvement stores. It is available in a variety of colors.

Measure the width and length of your concrete before you purchase the stain to ensure you buy enough. If you are having problems, give your measurements to an employee who will be able to help you.  It is generally easy to apply stain and in many cases a brush is used. You may have to apply more than one coat to achieve the color you want. The stain you purchase will come with complete instructions.

Before you use the concrete stain you will have to repair any damage that may be on the patio. For example, if you have any cracks, you must buy concrete crack sealant to fill them in. If you have a lot of damage, you should hire a concrete contractor to repair it for you. In a case like this, it may be easiest to have a new concrete patio installed.

Add Patio Furniture

The next step is to add some beautiful patio furniture. This not only makes your patio look great, but gives you and your family a place to sit and enjoy spending time outside together.

There are many types of patio furniture you can purchase made of different materials, such as:

  • Steel: Sturdy and durable
  • Rattan and wicker: Lightweight, durable and available in many colors
  • Wood: Types of wood available include pine, cypress, cedar, teak, and more. Solid and sturdy and provides beauty.
  • PVC: Lightweight, durable and easy to maintain.
  • Aluminum: Lightweight, does not rust, is low in maintenance and is durable.

When you go shopping for patio furniture, you will find these and other materials.

You will find many types of furniture. You can find chairs that come in a variety of colors, materials, and sizes. Patio tables can feature tile, wood, or glass tabletops. You should consider adding benches and loveseats for extra sitting space.

What you choose depends on your budget, as well as what will go will with your home.
